Activities

Class teachers will select an age-appropriate thematic unit of study, and during these times each day, students will participate in integrated learning that features English reading and writing, art work and fun activities based on this 2 week unit. All classroom teachers are qualified native speakers of English.

Children will be accompanied to the library to listen to stories, discuss and read books that relate to the thematic classroom unit, and to simply enjoy time looking at picture books or begin reading a new English novel!

Class teachers and the students will have access to ample art supplies and equipment to create arts and crafts based primarily on the thematic unit of study.  Over the two weeks of summer camp, children will have both structured guidance and 'free exploration' time with paint, clay, pencil and chalk to let their imagination run wild!

Each GSIS Summer Camp class will have lessons with the ICT teacher where they will engage in age appropriate use of technology on the PC or Ipads. Use of the school's many software programs for English language learning, design, and information literacy will ensure both an educational and fun time in the fully equipped, modern computer lab. Students will also learn about being a safe 'digital citizen' in the 21st century! Young learners will cover the basics of computer coding through a variety of interactive games and child friendly websites. Older students will be presented with more challenging coding projects in order to extend their learning. We hope to ignite a passion for programming as it is an essential skill for the future. Let's get coding!"

Mandarin is Fun!
During the GSIS Summer Camp, younger and older learners alike will learn Mandarin through dialogue practice, songs, stories, games and art work. The emphasis will be on speaking and listening.

Students will enjoy several cultural art activities, including Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting and paper cutting, etc.

During Fun Fitness, students will be led by a certified and experienced PE teacher in our new and fully equipped Primary Sports Hall.  Our youngest learners will additionally benefit from the low student-teacher ratio as the classroom assistant will also support.  Each lesson will have several 'mini activities' planned.  For example a session will start out with two or three tag or relay games, followed by skill development such as soccer dribbling, or basketball shooting.  This will be followed by modified games to suit all skill and age levels to develop skills just learned.  Finally, the lesson will end with games that will improve cardiovascular strength. Our aim is to be inclusive of all students by tailoring the activities and games to actively engage and develop skills, while ensuring all children have fun!
