GSIS hosts second Youth Debates competition

On 15 and 16 November 2018, GSIS hosted the second "Jugend debattiert" ("Youth Debates") competition. This year the preliminary and final rounds took place on two consecutive days in order to give the pupils enough time to prepare.

During the debates, the following questions were discussed::

Age Group one (K08- K09):

  • Should the rules for GSIS school buses be tightened?
  • Should the use of disposable plastic products be banned in Hong Kong?
  • Should subjects such as PE and art be taught together with the English stream?

Age Group Two (K10- K11):

  • Should subjects such as PE and art be taught together with the English stream?
  • Should GSIS have a wider range of exam subjects for the Abitur?
  • Should plastic manufacturers be obliged to collect plastic from the oceans?

The debates were very exciting and it was once again evident that the participants had all prepared very well, so that the debates were marked by a lively discussion.

We congratulate Sophie (K09), Jonas (K09), Celina (K10) and Niklas (K11) who won the final debates.

All four students will participate in a training session on 18 December run by Katharina Zhiqi Zhou, the winner of the "Jugend debattiert" competition in China. Our students will then travel to the Asian Final in Singapore to represent GSIS. We wish the winners lots of luck and a great time at the workshops at the German European School Singapore.
