GSIS IB Diploma Students Deliver Exceptional Academic Results

Academic excellence is one of the main reasons for families to choose German Swiss International School (GSIS) for their children’s education. This tradition has been maintained with another set of exceptional International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) examination results for the 2017-18 school year.

GSIS students achieved a commendable 100% pass rate, with a highly creditable average IB Diploma score of 39.84 points, a level that is truly outstanding and qualifies our students amongst the best in the world. Two GSIS students achieved the maximum score of 45 points, whilst eight more candidates achieved 43 or 44 points with 55% of our cohort achieving a score of at least 40 points. For comparison, last year’s world average was 29.9 points.

The Head of GSIS English Secondary Department, Mr Simon Misso-Veness, and his team of dedicated teachers are incredibly proud of the students' achievements. "We are delighted by these superb results that are a testament to the students' hard work as well as the ethos of teaching and learning at the school. These academic achievements should be read in relation to other aspects of an IB education, namely international-mindedness, developing independence as a learner and a focus on service education, which at GSIS is grounded in a thriving and highly successful Creativity, Activity and Service programme." Mr Misso-Veness added, "As with all results at this time there is a period of adjustment when they can improve through the remarking process so we anticipate announcing even better outcomes over the coming weeks."

"We are very proud of the outstanding results our students have achieved", says GSIS Acting Principal, Ms Grit Cichon. "Once again, they have set high standards for the next generation which are a reflection of the great work and dedication of our students, their families and our staff. We look forward to welcoming another excellent class of alumni and wish them all the best for their future life and career."

Following in the footsteps of the school's alumni, many of this year's GSIS graduates have been accepted by Top 15 universities as per the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as Shanghai Ranking, and will study Architecture, Film-making, Journalism, Art and Animation, Business Management, Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy, Politics, Economics, Life Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Science as well as Liberal Arts at Cornell University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, University of Chicago, University of California, (both Berkeley and Los Angeles) in the United States as well as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College London and The London School of Economics in Great Britain.

This year there were 165,752 students taking the IB Diploma programme, more than any other year and testament that this is a world-class pre-university programme.

As of this March, there are over 3,000 schools in 147 countries worldwide offering the IBDP. At this point in time, the summarised global and Asia Pacific results were not yet published by the International Baccalaureate Organisation.
