Students have begun the new school year and have had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with new classmates and different teachers in their new year levels, and parents were given the opportunity to become more familiar with the changes of a new academic term through the KPR evenings held on 28 August for Y01 and Y02 parents and on 3 September for Y03-Y06 parents.
As the hot temperatures continue, please encourage your child to bring a water bottle along to school. In both our Pok Fu Lam and Wan Chai campuses, there is an opportunity for the children to re-fill their bottle with water. In Wan Chai, we welcome a new vending machine on level 1, which contains some healthy snack options and fruit juices.
Water Safety Programme during the last week of the academic year for Y03-Y06
During the last week of school, a compulsory Y03-Y06 Water Safety Programme was conducted (24 June – 27 June 2013). Teachers and some specialist teachers were involved in facilitating this programme and were very pleased with the success of the week. Both staff and students had lots of fun and gained some invaluable water survival techniques that regular swimming lessons do not always provide. In general, this new EPD initiative seeks to increase the water safety skills of all Y03-Y06 children and to increase our students' awareness around water. We used elements of the Royal Lifesaving Australia's Water 'Swim and Survive' programme. All teachers successfully gained their accreditation to be authorised examiners for the Water Safety and Swim & Survive Programme that Royal Lifesaving Australia endorses.
Please note that if your child is unable to attend any afterschool GSIS event, we respectfully ask that parents inform the relevant teacher and/or specialist teacher well in advance so that they can make alternative arrangements.
Shamrocks Kiosk - Wan Chai campus
Shamrocks will continue to service us with the pre-ordered meal system, however children will no longer be able to order their lunch on an ad-hoc basis. If children forget their lunch, they may notify the primary secretary by 9am and an order can be called through to Shamrocks directly. Students may purchase a drink from the vending machine located on Level 1. We are currently in the process of arranging a Bonaqua vending machine where water bottles will be available.
‘No hat, no play policy’
As we care about your child’s health and well-being, GSIS introduced a 'no hat, no play policy'. Students are requested to wear their sun hats during outdoor activities such as break times, PE lessons and ECA's for both Wan Chai and Pok Fu Lam campuses.
Classroom teachers and specialist teachers will be updating their LEO pages by the first week in September. Please contact the relevant classroom teacher if you have any questions / concerns in the interim.
