Courses

Afternoon Activities are designed to complement the curriculum and to offer the students a chance to discover other strength and abilities rather than academic skills. Furthermore, this is an excellent opportunity to meet students of both streams and to develop friendship and intercultural understanding. Since many years GSIS offers successfully a wide range of afternoon activities to students and outsiders.

Courses are organized on a ‘First-come, First-serve’ basis with priority for GSIS students. If courses are not fully booked, external students are welcome to apply for the remaining spaces at our Wan Chai Campus only. Courses are organized in two semesters each school year and enrolment takes place twice a year, in September and January.

Each semester about 500-600 students between the age of 3 to 11 take part in up to 60 courses, including Arts and Crafts, Basketball, Chess, Cooking, Gymnastics, Horse-Riding, Languages, Martial Arts, Science, Soccer, Tennis and Yoga to name but a few. Our excellent sporting facilities at the GSIS Wan Chai Campus comprise a large fully equipped sports hall, a ballet room, two outdoors games areas and an undercover playground. Lower primary students enjoy a playground area, sand pit and a roof top soccer field in the Pok Fu Lam Campus.

Additionally a number of specialists come in to teach on a regular basis. Although some of these groups take part in inter-school and other competitions, the activities are clearly not competitive and students of all levels are welcome.

The afternoon activities are financially self-supporting. The fees cover remuneration for the course leader, rent and repairs as well as administration.
