As of 30 May 2008, the GSIS Association and Foundation Boards have adopted a Master Facilities Plan that will guide the school into the future. Under this long-term plan GSIS will comprise two campuses:

· the refurbished Peak campus at Guildford Road with improved and expanded facilities for self-contained Primary and Secondary Departments,
· the new Pokfulam campus at 162 Pokfulam Road, which will provide a spacious and attractive learning environment for our Kindergarten and Business College.

The Peak Campus

In addition to providing dedicated areas for the Primary and Secondary Departments, the revamped Peak campus will have a cafeteria, a bigger Senior Library, a second gym and additional teaching space. Unfortunately, we will incur the loss of our swimming pool, as well as the need to decant our Primary Departments to an off-site location, for the duration of the extension works, probably from January 2010 to 2013/14.

Decanting school

The Education Bureau has tentatively offered us a temporary school site in Ma On Shan, although no formal agreement has yet been signed. It is clear that the school site on offer is not big enough to accommodate both Secondary Departments so the only solution that is compatible with the dual-stream philosophy of GSIS and its operational needs, would be to relocate the two Primary Departments to Ma On Shan. The Boards have not taken this decision lightly, and the school will endeavour to make the relocation process as smooth as possible.

The Pokfulam Campus

GSIS has been allocated a second campus for long-term use at the edge of Pokfulam Village and we hope to move both streams of the Kindergarten and the Business College there in August 2009, or after the Christmas vacation in early 2010. We are positive that we will be able to make our Pokfulam campus into a very appealing and engaging learning environment, with state-of-the-art Kindergarten facilities and an attractive outdoor play area. Given the traffic and access issues that arise at this second campus, GSIS will require all kindergarten students to use school buses. In accepting and enforcing a school bus policy, GSIS will play a pioneering role among international schools in Hong Kong.

We understand parental concerns and we do appreciate that the temporary three-campus solution presents challenges to families with children of different age groups. We believe this solution also presents some exciting new educational opportunities, and that is strikes the right balance between the needs of our present students and those of our future students. Am 30. Mai 2008 haben die Vorstände der GSIS Association Ltd. und der GSIS Foundation Ltd. einen Rahmenplan für den weiteren Ausbau der Schule angenommen. Danach wird die Schule langfristig zwei Standorte umfassen:

· die renovierten Hauptgebäude in der Guildford Road auf dem Peak mit vergrößerten und verbesserten Räumlichkeiten und eigenständigen Grundschul- und Sekundarstufenbereichen sowie
· ein neues und geräumiges Gebäude in Pokfulam für Kindergarten und Wirtschaftskolleg (162 Pokfulam Road).

Der Peak-Campus

Der umgebaute und erweiterte Hauptstandort auf dem Peak wird außer räumlich getrennten Grundschul- und Sekundarstufenabteilungen eine Schulkantine, eine größere Sekundarstufenbibliothek, eine weitere Turnhalle sowie zusätzlichen Unterrichtsraum umfassen. Der Preis für diese Verbesserungen ist der Verlust unseres Schwimmbades sowie die vorübergehende Verlegung unserer Grundschule für die Dauer der Erweiterungsarbeiten (voraussichtlich von Januar 2010 bis 2013/14).

Ausweichschule

Das Erziehungsministerium hat uns eine Ausweichschule in Ma On Shan in Aussicht gestellt; ein entsprechender Vertrag ist allerdings noch nicht unterzeichnet. Da die angebotene Schule nicht groß genug für beide Sekundarstufenabteilungen ist, kommt für eine Schule mit zwei Zweigen als einzig praktikable und leitbildkonforme Lösung die vorübergehende Verlegung der beiden Grundschulabteilungen nach Ma On Shan in Betracht. Die Schulvorstände haben sich diese Entscheidung nicht leicht gemacht; die Schule wird sich bemühen, den Umzug so reibungslos wie möglich zugestalten.

Die Schule in Pokfulam

Der GSIS ist ein zweiter Standort am Rande der Dorfsiedlung in Pokfulam zugewiesen worden, den wir voraussichtlich ab August 2009 oder nach den Weihnachtsferien Anfang 2010 für die beiden Zweige unseres Kindergartens und unser Wirtschaftskolleg nutzen können. Wir planen, die Schule zu einem sehr ansprechenden Lernumfeld mit modernster Kindergarteneinrichtung und kindgerechten Spielflächen im Freien umzugestalten. Angesichts der Verkehrs- und Zufahrtsbedingungen an diesem Standort ist die Schulbusbenutzung für alle Kindergartenkinder verpflichtend. Mit dieser Verpflichtung übernehmen wir eine Vorreiterrolle unter den internationalen Schulen in Hongkong.

Wir verstehen die Bedenken der Eltern und sehen, dass die vorübergehende Drei-Standort-Lösung Familien mit Kindern unterschiedlichen Alters vor Probleme stellt. Wir sind aber überzeugt, dass die jetzt gefundene Lösung große Chancen zur Verbesserung unseres Bildungsangebotes bietet und die richtige Balance zwischen den Bedürfnissen der gegenwärtigen und der künftigen Schülergeneration darstellt. Schulvorstand und Schulleitung bleiben dem Leitbild einer erstklassigen Bildung verpflichtet.
