| | | | English Primary | | | Transition to School | | Transition to School Here is some information which we hope you will find useful in settling your child into Year 1. - An early bedtime is essential for an early start to the day.
- Please ensure your child has a sustaining breakfast before leaving home.
- School begins at 7:35 am. It is good for your child to arrive 10 minutes before this time to socialise with friends.
- Encourage your child to be as independent as possible with regard to dressing, tying shoelaces, eating, toileting and the packing and unpacking of his/her schoolbag.
- Your child needs to come to school everyday, unless he/she is ill. Absenteeism is detrimental to your child's progress.
- All items of clothing and all belongings MUST BE CLEARLY LABELLED with your child's name. An order form is available for commercial labels.
- Please ensure that any reading, exercise or work books taken home are returned to school the following day.
- At the end of each school day, teachers and assistants will ensure your child is either put onto the correct bus home, or delivered into the care of an adult designated by you.
- Allow your child plenty of time in the afternoons for free play and visiting friends rather than a formal timetable of structured activities.
- It is important, especially in the early part of the year, that your child gets into a secure routine of going home, whether by school bus or being met by a caregiver. Therefore we would recommend that playdates begin and end from home.
- We promote healthy eating during snacktime - fruit, vegetables and brown bread sandwiches are great! Please - no crisps, chocolate, sweets, sweet biscuits, soft drinks or drinks in glass bottles. Please keep drinks in glass bottles at home.
- Help us by reinforcing the socially acceptable behaviour and language practised at school.
- If there are any problems or concerns, please address these directly to your child's classroom teacher.
- We enjoy a good working relationship with parents and appreciate the help they give us with various activities. We will be requesting volunteers during the first month of school.
- For security reasons, visitors to the school should first go to the Primary School office to sign a book and be given a visitors tag to wear. If you come into school regularly you will receive a name tag which must be worn when you are on the school premises.
- If your child cannot attend school or an event, please telephone/email the school before 7:15 am.
- BE POSITIVE about school. Give plenty of encouragement for your child's first attempts (in spite of your real opinion!).
We look forward to a happy association with you.
