General Information on EKG1

The EKG 1 (English Kindergarten 1) Class consists of 21 students aged 3 and above and is co-taught by two qualified teachers. The hours for the current school year are 9:00 am-12:00 p.m.

In EKG1 we develop all the pre-skills to build the foundations on which children will learn, when they are developmentally ready to do so. We follow the guidelines of the British National Curriculum Foundation Stage. We facilitate learning through play.

Our Main Areas of Learning include:

  • Social Skills
  • Gross Motor Skills
  • Pre-Math Skills
  • Pre-Writing Skills
  • Language skills
  • Pre-reading skills

All Areas of learning are undertaken through Theme related projects, which vary from year to year and will often include: All About Me, Families, Life-Cycles, Undersea and various Festivals throughout the year.

On entering the class the children are encouraged to have a free choice of activity in different areas of the room. This enables them to settle into class and provides opportunities for a variety of interactions. Registration and daily discussions are followed by outdoor playground time. Afterwards the children settle on the mat to pursue an instructional period and enjoy a story. The children are then encouraged to join the teacher at the table to interact individually in either art and craft activities or a directed activity, as well as choose an area of the class to play in. Snack time follows, and at the end of the day we conclude with one of the weekly activities.
