Kindergarten
A day in Kindergarten English Stream

ARRIVAL
Children arrive between 8:45 and 9:00 am. All children arriving by bus are ushered to class by our bus mothers. Others who use private or public transport are brought directly to the classrooms by their parents/carers. There is always a teacher present in the classrooms to greet them.

ACTIVITIES

TEACHER-LED ACTIVITIES
These are organized as a whole group, initially during instructional time. Thereafter they are organiyed with small groups of children or individually during free-playtime. Activities may include: cooking, art and craft, board games, role-play and directional activities.

FREE PLAY TIME
Our children are allowed to choose or at times be directed to work at activity centers assigned by the teachers. The activities are usually built around a theme, number or letter of the alphabet of the week. Examples of activities and materials available are: the home corner/come dress up area, the building and construction area, the painting area, puzzles, the reading/book corner, art and craft activities, math or phonic games and a table set up for writing/drawing/journals. The activities conducted are more challenging and difficult as the year progresses to enhance our children's learning abilities.

GYMNASTICS and PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Gymnastics take place once a week. This is normally a whole class activity and involves the development of the child's motor skills. Through movement, organized games and activities their physical development, motor control, spatial awareness, ball skills and team skills will be enhanced.

SNACK TIME
Children bring their own snacks to school. They are each requested to bring a small healthy snack in manageable boxes, to foster independence. Etiquette and manners are encouraged during this time.

MORNING CIRCLE
During this time the children learn to be part of a group; developing listening and response skills, sharing information, and listening to others share their experiences. These encourage conversational skills as well as develop vocabulary and confidence. Teachers use the group time as an instructional time and areas of the curriculum are developed and followed according to the daily lesson plan and theme.

ART and CRAFT
Children are free to choose from a variety of materials in the Art studio to encourage creativity. Art and craft is also used to develop fine motor skills and depth of thought.
Teachers will periodically use art and craft to explore different areas of the curriculum.

PLAYGROUND
Two covered playgrounds allow us daily visits even during inclement weather and the children have an opportunity to run, climb, cycle and play in the sand.

COMPUTER
Each classroom has a computer installed with educational programs for example Kid Pix, Tizzy's Tools and other suitable educational programs and websites. In addition, interactive whiteboards are used during lessons to encourage various ways of learning and expression.

DISMISSAL
Dismissal time is at 12:00 noon and our children are accompanied by their teachers to either their buses or to be received bei their parents.
