At GSIS we put a great deal of emphasis on involvement in extra curricular activities. Such involvement helps students to feel a part of the school community and allows them to develop skills other than the purely academic. Extra curricular activities are also a source of much enjoyment and often, when a student has represented the school, reached a particular goal or simply performed to the best of his/her ability, they can be a source of well-deserved pride. Universities are also aware of the benefits of extra curricular activities, which is why they look for a varied range of interests when they consider applications.

Sports
GSIS has a variety of sports teams including basketball, football, rugby, hockey, tennis, netball, swimming, golf, athletics, table tennis, badminton, squash and cross-country. Most of the sports offered have both junior and senior teams offering opportunities for students throughout the age range to participate. Most of our teams compete in Inter-School competitions.

Choirs
Many of our students moving up fro the Primary Department maintain their involvement in the school choir. Students from Years 7 to 9 add their voices to the very impressive Junior Choir, whilst the students of Years 10-13 contribute to the Senior Choir. Both these groups perform at the annual Carol Singing and in the Summer Concert.

School Orchestra
The school has a small but talented orchestra and new members are always welcome. As well as performing at a variety of school events, the orchestra plays annually at the Carol Singing and in the Spring Concert.

GSIS Big Band
The GSIS Big Band has, over the years, become quite an institution. Perhaps best known for the lively jazz accompaniment it provides at the annual School Bazaar, the Big Band is also asked to play at events throughout Hong Kong.

Drama
The Drama Club involves students from all age groups. Each year there is a school production and students are involved in all aspects of these performances, including the stage management, sound and lighting, make-up, costumes, front of house, etc. The German Language Theatre Group also puts on a production each year in German.

Die GSIS legt größten Wert darauf, dass sich ihre Schüler außerunterrichtlich engagieren. Auf diese Weise entwickeln sie Gefühl für die Schulgemeinschaft und erproben sich in anderen als akademischen Fähigkeiten. Außerdem machen solche Aktivitäten Spaß; und stolz darf ein Schüler sein, wenn er als Vertreter der Schule eine besonders gute Leistung bringt. Universitäten sind sich der positiven Auswirkungen außerunterrichtlicher Aktivitäten ebenfalls bewusst und achten bei der Beurteilung von Bewerbungen auf die Breite des entsprechenden Engagements.

Arbeitsgemeinschaften in der Sekundarstufe

Sports
die GSIS ist stolz auf ihre Sportmannschaften, zum Beispiel in Basketball, Fußball, Rugby, Hockey, Tennis, Netzball, Schwimmen, Golf, Leichtathletik, Tischtennis, Badminton, Squash und Cross-Country-Lauf. Die meisten Sportarten werden in sämtlichen Jahrgangsstufen angeboten. Die meisten der Mannschaften stellen sich in alljährlichen Wettkämpfen dem Vergleich mit anderen Hongkonger Schulen.

Chöre
Viele unserer Schüler bleiben auch nach dem Wechsel von der Grundschule in die Sekundarstufe dem Chorgesang treu. Schüler der Jahrgangsstufen 7 bis 9 bilden den Junior-Chor. Der Senior-Chor rekrutiert sich aus den Jahrgängen 10 bis 13. Beide Chöre treten alljährlich mit Weihnachtsliedern und zum Sommerkonzert auf.

Schulorchester
Die Schule freut sich über ihr zwar kleines, aber begabtes Orchester und auf alle, die es verstärken möchten. Es tritt bei verschiedenen Schulveranstaltungen auf sowie alljährlich bei Weihnachts- und Frühlingskonzert.

Big Band
Die Big Band ist über die Jahre zu einer festen Größe im Schulleben und darüber hinaus geworden. Bekannt vor allem durch die flotte Jazz-Begleitung des Weihnachtsbasars, wird die Truppe quer durch Hongkong zum Aufspielen gebeten.

Theater
Der Theater-Klub ist offen für Schüler aller Altersstufen. In der Vorbereitung der alljährlichen Aufführung sind die Schüler auf allen Ebenen einbezogen, einschließlich Bühnenaufbau, Maske, Kostüme, Ton und Licht. Die deutschsprachige Theatergruppe bringt ebenfalls einmal im Jahr ein Stück zur Aufführung.
