Community Involvement

CARE
Our main focus is to provide a regular service aimed at increasing social awareness and providing our members with a chance to cooperate with each other. Service activities will include helping underprivileged children, the elderly, the blind and other disabled people as well as fundraising activities such as flag selling or cookie selling which will go towards various charities.

EDEXCHANGE
We are going to mainly help Christian Action, an organization that aims to help the poor and disadvantaged in Hong Kong and Mainland China with particular emphasis upon displaced persons.

EPC
The Environmental Protection Club aims to increase environmental awareness within the school community. This year, our main theme will be the 5 R’s: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Replant, Replace and Repair. Through a number of activities that the students from Y7-Y13 (K06- K12) can participate in, they will learn the importance of energy conservation, recycling and wastage reduction. It is very important that students take the initiative to maintain a green environment.

INTERACT
The Interact Club is one of the oldest and largest student-run societies in the school that provides community awareness through exciting means. Interact provides a variety of activities for students to help those not as fortunate as themselves.

PAGES
Pages is a charity, which aims to send books to schools in the Philippines. Last year they managed to send 3000
books to a school to help educate many children. Students will be helping out with fundraising, bake sales and collecting books.

ROOM TO READ
We partner with local communities throughout the
developing world to provide quality educational
opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local
language children's literature, constructing schools, and
providing education to girls. We seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations.

STAND
GSIS STAND is a student-organized charity, which aims to promote awareness about the current genocide in Darfur, and in the future, about other crises in the world. Members will be able to help out with fundraising events such as Darfur Week.

WRS (WORLD RELIEF SOCIETY)
The World Relief Society (W.R.S.) is a student-run organization that focuses on helping aid relief efforts overseas. The W.R.S. aims not only to organize fundraisers to donate money, but also to help educate students.

STARFISH
Our charity is basically to raise money to help orphans with physical disability, sending them to the Shanghai children’s hospital for surgery. Here members can help out with fundraising events.

LIVING WATER
The aim of this charity is to raise money to provide clean water to those who cannot access it. Members can help out with fundraising events.

About CIG
All charitable organizations in our school are coordinated by the umbrella group CIG. We strive to provide a forum for our charitable organisations, support for individuals or classes who have charitable intentions and promote strong leadership in the field of community involvement. Any member (or prospective member) of any GSIS charitable organisation can join this group.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE
Members can provide
ideas for different
fundraising activities.
Each member will
volunteer for at least
three monthly events as
well as two one-off events.
They will participate in
the logistics and
organization process as
well as help out on the
day. Members will oversee
their activity from
beginning to end.
